Project overview
The Southwater Area Residents Association "SARA" invited the ONE TWO ONE art and architecture group to participate and deliver a project set within a network of roads known as Southwater.
Southwater is an area to the north of St Leonards Warrior Square railway station, St Leonards, East Sussex. Within the last few years the area has been through a period of regeneration. SARA retained money to initiate regeneration through creative development by not only creating better networks but also creatively thinking about ways their environment could be enlivened.
The roads highlighted by the residents were Woodland Vale Road, Southwater Road, De Cham Road and Chapel Park Road.
The members involved at this stage were local artists Mary Hooper and Elise Liversedge with Estelle Doughty, Rex Henry and Graham Seaton, artists and lecturers from The London Metropolitan University, Hastings College of Arts and Technology and pupils of Christ Church School, St. Leonards on Sea.
The 'Stage One' 2005-2008 archive outlines elements of the research process, which includes design workshops, conversations with residents and just seeing whats there. Through this period of research the project team developed the 'Design Ideas' leaflet and 'Stage Two' of the project.
